DUPR

(Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) is a dynamic global pickleball rating system that calculates a pickleball player's rating based solely on game results - using variables such as expected game outcomes, actual game results, point differences, and game recency. DUPR is adopted by major pickleball organizations and tournaments worldwide, such as USA Pickleball, PPA, and others, and is also accepted in Israel for organizing competitions and games.

The DUPR system changes the rules of the game: a single global, performance-based rating that allows for precise matching of levels, tournaments, and personal development.

How does the rating actually work?

The DUPR system calculates a rating based on four key factors that are weighted together for a pickleball player's final rating:

1. Performance vs. Expectation: The system calculates an "expectation" for victory before a game - if the result is higher than expected, the rating may increase, and if lower, it may decrease.

2. Match Type: Official games at a DUPR-connected club or in official tournaments have a greater impact than informal reports or social games (any player can report independently).

3. Recency of Games: Newer games are given a higher rating weight so that the rating reflects the player's current ability.

4. Match Volume: The more games you play and enter into the system, the more stable your rating becomes, providing a reliable average of your playing abilities.

5. In doubles matches, the team rating is calculated as the average of the two players' ratings.

What does the DUPR range mean?

A general guide to interpreting the numerical range:

2.00 - 2.99 - Initial stage, new or beginner pickleball players.

3.00 - 3.99 - Intermediate level, pickleball players who play regularly, beginning to master tactics, game strategy, and execution.

4.00 - 4.99 - Advanced level, pickleball players with extensive tactical knowledge and clear dominance in games (dominance = combination of wins and game frequency).

5.00 - Professional pickleball players, competitive tournament players with high skill and control who maintain a high average of wins and game frequency.

Why is it important?

Equality and Matching: DUPR provides a common language for all pickleball players - regardless of age, gender, or region, enabling fair game matchups and challenges.

Progress Tracking: Thanks to dynamic updates and the global system, pickleball players can track their progress over time in an up-to-date and convenient manner.

Events and Competitions: Tournament organizers and clubs use DUPR to divide ranks, form junior/adult divisions, and ensure that matches are fair and competitive.

We recommend players and clubs integrate the free DUPR system as part of their training programs, club activities, and tournaments.

How is this done?

1. Register for the DUPR app or load your account if it already exists.

2. Report game results - every time you play, report the result in the app or make sure the club you play at does it for you. What isn't entered isn't counted.

3. Participate in tournaments and competitions, in doubles and singles - the more data DUPR receives, the more accurate and realistic your rating will be.

4. Remember - the algorithm identifies the difference in expectation for the result - focus on self-improvement and play against opponents rated slightly higher than you, try to win!

5. Monitor your Reliability Score - this data indicates how much your rating is based on reliable data. The higher this score (up to 100%), the more stable and reliable the rating.

In summary:

Not just another rating - DUPR is the global, advanced, and currently accepted rating software in the pickleball world. It allows you, the player, to set a measurable goal, test yourself against the world, and grow transparently and professionally alongside your professional rivals.
